Storm Amy is currently impacting the UK, bringing a spell of very strong winds and heavy rain, particularly across northern and western areas.
Here is an update for today (Friday, October 3, 2025) and tomorrow (Saturday, October 4, 2025):
Today (Friday, October 3):
* Arrival and Worsening Conditions: Storm Amy is moving in rapidly from the west, with conditions worsening through the day.
* Winds: Very strong and potentially damaging winds are developing, especially in the north and west.
* Amber Warning: An Amber warning for wind is in force for northern and western parts of Scotland starting from 5 PM today and running overnight. Gusts in excess of 95 mph are possible in the most exposed areas.
* Yellow Warning: Yellow warnings for wind are in place for Northern Ireland, Scotland, parts of Northwest England, and Northwest Wales from this afternoon. Gusts of 50-60 \{ mph} are likely, potentially reaching 70-80 \{ mph} on exposed coasts and hills.
* Rain: Heavy rain is spreading eastwards across the UK, with spells being most persistent across western Scotland, which could see significant rainfall totals, increasing the risk of localised flooding.
* Disruption: The high winds and heavy rain are likely to cause disruption to travel (road, rail, and ferry), power supplies, and outdoor activities.
Tomorrow (Saturday, October 4):
* Storm Track: The worst of the weather is expected to push through the UK during the early hours of Saturday morning.
* Winds: It will remain very windy for most areas, with severe gales continuing in the north, particularly for the Northern Isles and parts of the far north of Scotland, before slowly easing overnight.
* Rain: Heavy rain will clear to the east, leaving a day of sunny spells and blustery, heavy showers across much of the country.
* Warnings: Yellow warnings for wind are active until the end of Saturday for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northwest England, and Northwest Wales.

Storm Amy has brought severe weather and widespread disruption across the UK and the island of Ireland, hitting some areas "much harder and more quickly than expected."
Key Impacts and Warnings:
* Fatalities and Power Cuts: Sadly, one person has been killed, and hundreds of thousands of homes on the island of Ireland are without power.
* Weather Warnings:
* An Amber "danger to life" wind warning remains in place for parts of northern Scotland until 9pm on Saturday. Damaging gusts of up to 100mph were possible in exposed parts of western Scotland (like Skye and Tiree) on Friday evening and overnight.

Flights and trains have been cancelled and a number of roads are closed as Storm Amy brings disruption to the island of Ireland and Scotland.
In the Republic of Ireland, a man in his 40s has died in County Donegal in a "weather-related incident", gardaí (Irish police) have said.
About 50,000 properties in Northern Ireland are currently without power, according to NIE Networks.
Openreach reports that several hundred people in Northern Ireland are without internet this evening due to downed cables. This comes as Storm Amy continues to cause havoc across the UK, with wind gusts reaching 105 mph recorded in the region.
